Scotland has its own active dogging following, centred on the three big cities, and its own legal framework — which is worth understanding before you assume the same rules apply as south of the border.
The legal position in Scotland
This isn't legal advice, but the short version is that Scots law covers this differently to England and Wales. There's no exact equivalent of the English "outraging public decency" offence; instead, Scotland has its own common law offence of public indecency, which can apply to behaviour that's lewd and likely to be seen, and isn't limited to spaces that are literally open to the public — context matters more than the specific location. On top of that, the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009 sets out a specific offence of sexual exposure: intentionally exposing your genitals in a way likely to be seen by someone else, without their consent, done either for sexual gratification or to cause them fear, alarm or distress. It can be tried either summarily (up to 12 months) or on indictment (up to 5 years), depending on severity. As with everywhere else in the UK, none of this is about two or more consenting adults meeting discreetly — it's about visibility to someone who never agreed to see it.
Where the scene sits
Glasgow and Edinburgh carry the bulk of the activity, with Aberdeen having a smaller but genuine following of its own. The Scotland hub covers the country more broadly if you're outside those three.
Etiquette doesn't change
Whatever the legal detail, the etiquette that actually keeps people safe is the same across the whole UK — consent from everyone present, genuine discretion, no approaching a car uninvited, no photos without separate explicit consent, and leaving a spot exactly as you found it. We've written the full etiquette breakdown on our dogging rules and etiquette page, and the wider UK picture on our dogging locations page.
A safer way to arrange it
Most of the risk in dogging — legal, personal, or just a wasted night — comes from skipping the part where you actually talk to someone first. A free Swing Cities profile lets you message people in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and beyond who are already into outdoor meets, so you know who you're meeting and what you've both agreed to before you go anywhere.
